Teaching and Research in (Neuro) science for Development (TReND) in Africa

Year established 2011

The establishment of TReND is part of the global reforms geared at improving Africa’s scientific impact and operational efficiency by bridging the gap between global laboratory resources and African research potential. Today, it operates as a volunteer-led charity dedicated to empowering African scientists to achieve scientific independence and solve local challenges through world-class innovation.

The mandate of TReND in Africa is to coordinate and execute priority cutting-edge biomedical training courses and open-source technology projects to promote scientific integration towards the accelerated realisation of a high-tech, knowledge-based African economy while simultaneously strengthening the capacity of African universities and researchers, advancing knowledge-based advisory support through equipment donations and academic volunteering, undertaking a full range of community outreach to promote science in schools, and serving as the continent’s technical interface with the global scientific community and development partners.
