Lurio University

Lúrio University (UniLúrio) is a distinguished public institution in northern Mozambique, notable for being the first public university in the country to be headquartered outside the capital, Maputo. UniLúrio was designed to decentralize higher education and drive development in the historically underserved northern provinces.

In 2026, the university is led by Rector Professor Leda Florinda Hugo, who continues to champion the "UniLúrio family" concept, a social commitment where the university actively engages with local communities to solve regional problems. The institution has grown from a single health faculty into a multi-campus network serving thousands of students across three provinces.
