Zambeze University
Zambeze University (UniZambeze) ,Mozambique's second-largest public university, serves as a strategic engine for development across the country’s central corridor. Headquartered in the port city of Beira, the university operates on a decentralized multi-campus model across the provinces of Sofala, Manica, Tete, and Zambézia, ensuring that its academic offerings, which range from mechatronics and actuarial science in Beira to tropical medicine in Tete and forestry engineering in Mocuba, are directly integrated into the region's diverse economic sectors. In late 2025, the university entered a new era of leadership following the appointment of Rector Luís Miguel Estevão Cristóvão, who was tasked by the Mozambican government with spearheading a "transformative" agenda focused on integrating artificial intelligence and applied research into the curriculum to better support local small and medium enterprises. As of 2026, UniZambeze is recognized for its growing research footprint in subclinical malaria and sustainable construction, while continuing to manage high-level international cooperation through the Association of Portuguese Speaking Universities (AULP).
