Pungue University

Year established 2019

Pungue University (Universidade Púnguè) is a public institution in Mozambique that has rapidly evolved since its 2019 inception into a strategic center for regional innovation and academic excellence. Headquartered in Chimoio, Manica Province, with a second major campus in Tete, the university operates under the leadership of Rector Professor Emília Afonso Nhalevilo and serves over 6,700 students across 39 diversified degree programs. While it maintains a strong foundation in teacher training and law, Pungue University has gained significant momentum in 2026 through its IETUPUNGUE Project and a new Innovation Incubator Unit, which focus on bridging the gap between exact sciences, such as Data Science and Industrial Chemistry, and the practical needs of the mining, agrarian, and environmental sectors in central Mozambique. The university acts as a critical engine for socio-economic development, leveraging its specialized faculties in Geosciences and Engineering to empower the next generation of Mozambican professionals with market-oriented technical skills.
