University of Cape Coast

Year established 1962

The University of Cape Coast (UCC) established out of a need for highly qualified educators, it has evolved into a multidisciplinary giant and is currently ranked as the #1 university in Ghana and West Africa for the fifth consecutive year in the 2026 Times Higher Education World University Rankings. Under the leadership of Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Denis Worlanyo Aheto (as of 2026), the university is executing its "Corporate Strategic Plan (2023–2027)," which focuses on building a resilient teaching culture and promoting global research influence, a category where it notably ranks first globally for research impact. UCC operates across two main campuses: the Southern Campus (Old Site), which houses the central administration and sits on high ground overlooking the sea, and the Northern Campus (New Site), often called "Science," which serves as the hub for modern infrastructure, engineering, and the University Garden.
