The Biotechnology Center of Eduardo Mondlane University (CB-UEM) is a premier interfaculty research institution in Maputo, Mozambique. It serves as a multidisciplinary hub integrating the faculties of Agronomy, Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, and Sciences. Strategically located within the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine campus, the center is designed to maximize human and material resources to address national challenges in health, agriculture, and environmental sustainability. In March 2024, the university appointed Dr. Lucinda de Araújo as the new Director, succeeding Dr. Joaquim Saíde. As of 2026, the center is a critical engine for the 2025/2026 Master’s in Biotechnology cycle, training researchers in advanced fields such as bioinformatics, molecular diagnostics, and cell culture to solve local problems ranging from rabies control to crop optimization.
