Year established 2005

The Centre de Biotechnologie de Borj Cédria (CBBC) is a leading Tunisian research institution specializing in plant biotechnology and its applications in sustainable agriculture. Located within the Borj Cédria Technopole (Ecopark), it serves as a center of excellence for addressing the challenges of arid and semi-arid environments, particularly food security and climate change resilience. The center is renowned for its multidisciplinary approach, combining molecular physiology, genomics, and microbiology to improve crop yields and soil health.

The mission of CBBC is focused on spearheading the development of biotechnological tools to catalyze the transition toward a resilient and productive agricultural sector. This mandate involves executing priority R&D through its five specialized laboratories, including the study of extremophile plants and olive biotechnology, providing authoritative technical guidance on plant adaptation to drought and salinity, and acting as the primary national interface for the valorization of Tunisian phytogenetic heritage.
