Centre de Biotechnologie de Sfax (CBS) serves as a Mediterranean hub for "applied biotechnology," focusing on practical solutions for regional challenges such as crop resilience, waste valorization, and biopesticide development.

The mission of CBS is focused on spearheading multidisciplinary research in biotechnology to catalyze the transition toward a sustainable bio-based economy in Tunisia and the wider African region. This mandate involves executing priority R&D through its six specialized laboratories, ranging from biopesticides and plant improvement to environmental bioprocesses, providing authoritative technical guidance to local industries for technology transfer, and acting as a primary national interface for international scientific cooperation, particularly within the Horizon Europe framework.
