CIMMYT (Harare)

Year established 1985

The International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) serves as a vital center for developing and disseminating stress-resilient maize varieties tailored for the smallholder farmers of Sub-Saharan Africa.

The mission of CIMMYT Harare is to enhance food security and livelihoods through the development of climate-smart agricultural technologies. This mandate involves spearheading research into drought-tolerant and biofortified crops (such as Vitamin A-enriched maize), promoting Conservation Agriculture (CA) to preserve soil health, and providing technical leadership to National Agricultural Research Systems (NARS) across the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
