Galala University

Galala University (GU) is one of Egypt's flagship "National Universities" (non-profit, state-backed), inaugurated as part of the strategic development of Galala City. As of February 2026, the university is led by President Professor Dr. Mohamed El-Shinawi, a renowned surgeon and former advisor to the Ministry of Higher Education. Located on the Galala Plateau in Suez, roughly 700 meters above sea level, the university overlooks the Red Sea and is a centerpiece of the government’s vision for "smart" higher education. In the latest 2026 Times Higher Education (THE) Arab University Rankings, Galala University reached a significant milestone, ranking 1st among national universities in Egypt and 63rd across the Arab world, reflecting its rapid ascent as a regional hub for innovation and research.
