Kadoma Cotton Research Institution

Year established 1925

The Cotton Research Institute (CRI), located in Kadoma, Zimbabwe, is the national epicenter for cotton research and variety development. The institute operates under the Department of Research and Specialist Services (DR&SS) within the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development. Its primary mandate is to maintain the world-renowned "Zimbabwean Albar" cotton quality through breeding, pest management, and agronomic research.

The mission of CRI is focused on developing and disseminating sustainable cotton production technologies to catalyze the growth of Zimbabwe's "white gold" industry. This mandate involves executing a robust breeding program categorized by altitude, spanning the middleveld and the southeast lowveld, providing authoritative technical guidance on pest control (specifically for jassids and aphids), and acting as the sole source of breeder (nucleus) seed for the entire national cotton market.
