Kutsaga Research Station

Year established 1950

The Kutsaga Research Station is the world-renowned headquarters of the Tobacco Research Board (TRB) of Zimbabwe. Located on the outskirts of Harare, it is a premier center for agricultural innovation, historically focused on tobacco but increasingly diversifying into alternative crops and biotechnologies. In 2025, the institution celebrated its 75th Anniversary, marking seven decades of scientific leadership that has kept Zimbabwe at the forefront of global tobacco production.

The mission of Kutsaga is to develop and provide elite varieties and innovative agro-based technical services to maximize economic value from sustainable tobacco production. Beyond tobacco, Kutsaga has expanded its mandate to include "biopharming," climate-proofed crops, and horticulture, utilizing state-of-the-art ISO-accredited laboratories for molecular biology, GMO screening, and soil analysis.
