The National Biosafety Authority (NBA) was established under Biosafety Act No. 2 of 2009 to oversee and regulate the safe use of genetically modified organisms (GMOs). Its main role is to ensure that the transfer, handling, and use of GMOs are conducted in a way that protects human health, the environment, and biodiversity. Essentially, NBA acts as the national authority that provides approvals, sets guidelines, and monitors compliance for all activities involving GMOs in the country.
