National Institute of Agronomic Research of Tunisia (INRAT)

Year established 1913

The National Institute of Agronomic Research of Tunisia (INRAT) is the country's oldest and most prestigious agricultural research body. It is a public institution under the dual supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. INRAT plays a pivotal role in ensuring Tunisia's food security by modernizing agricultural systems and developing climate-resilient crop and animal varieties.

The mission of INRAT is focused on spearheading scientific research and experimentation to catalyze the transition toward a sustainable, high-yield agricultural sector. This mandate involves executing priority R&D through seven specialized laboratories and a network of experimental stations, providing authoritative technical guidance on plant and animal genetics, and acting as the primary national interface for technology transfer and the conservation of Tunisia's diverse phytogenetic heritage.
