Pwani University
Pursuant to a gazette order issued on 23rd August 2007, a decision was taken to transform the former Kilifi Institute of Agriculture into Pwani University College, then a constituent college of Kenyatta University. The establishment of Pwani University was a cornerstone of the national reforms geared at improving the coastal region’s academic impact and operational efficiency. On 31st January 2013, the institution reached its ultimate milestone when it was awarded a Charter, transitioning into a fully-fledged, independent university dedicated to excellence in the scenic resort town of Kilifi.
The mandate of Pwani University is to: a) Coordinate and Execute priority teaching, research, and innovation projects to promote socio-economic transformation towards the accelerated realization of Vision 2030 and sustainable development; and b) Strengthen capacity of students and the coastal community, advance knowledge-based advisory support in tropical sciences and marine resources, undertake a wide range of community outreach initiatives, and serve as the region’s technical interface with all global development stakeholders and industry partners.
