University of Sfax – Faculty of Sciences is recognized for its high research output, particularly in chemistry, mathematics, and environmental sciences, often ranking first nationally in these disciplines. It plays a pivotal role in the "University of the South" ecosystem, driving innovation through its numerous research laboratories and international doctoral programs.

The mission of FSS is focused on providing high-level scientific training and conducting cutting-edge research to catalyze the transition toward a technologically sovereign Tunisia. This mandate involves managing five major departments, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Earth Sciences, providing authoritative technical guidance on regional environmental and industrial challenges, and acting as the primary hub for the Doctoral School of Fundamental Sciences, which supports hundreds of researchers and PhD candidates.
