University of Technology and Arts of Byumba (UTAB)
The University of Technology and Arts of Byumba (UTAB) is a community-based, fully accredited private university located in Gicumbi District, Northern Province, Rwanda. UTAB is recognized for its strong focus on practical, market-oriented education through its three primary faculties: Education, Social Sciences, Management and Development Studies (SSMDS), and Agriculture, Environmental Management and Renewable Energy (FAEMRE). In 2026, under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Fr. Dr. Gilbert Munana, the university continues to expand its impact through innovative funding models like the "Study Now, Pay Later" initiative in partnership with Chancen International. Beyond its main Byumba campus, UTAB operates a Distance and Open Learning Facility (DOLF) in Kiramuruzi, Gatsibo District, and is a key participant in international climate resilience projects like NISHATI, which aims to enhance local sustainability in water and energy sectors across East Africa.
