University of Yaoundé 1
Year established 1993
The University of Yaoundé I is a public university in Yaoundé, Cameroon. It was created in 1993 following a national higher‑education reform that split the original University of Yaoundé into two separate institutions (Yaoundé I and Yaoundé II).
The university traces its deeper roots back to the earlier Federal University of Cameroon established in the 1960s, but as a distinct legal entity it dates from the 1993 reform.
It offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs across sciences, arts, humanities, medicine, engineering, and teacher education, and operates a bilingual (French and English) curriculum.
