University of Zimbabwe

Year established 1952

University of Zimbabwe is the leading force in the country’s "Heritage-Based Education 5.0" philosophy, a national strategy that integrates innovation and industrialization into the traditional pillars of teaching and research to solve modern socio-economic challenges.

The mission of the University of Zimbabwe is to provide leadership in relevant research and knowledge-based innovative solutions to catalyze the transition toward a modernized and industrially advanced economy. This mandate involves executing priority research through its 11 faculties, ranging from Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences to the newly established Faculty of Computer Engineering, Informatics, and Communications, providing authoritative technical guidance to government and industry, and acting as the primary national interface for technological incubation through its modern Innovation Hub and Agro-Industrial Park. Under the current leadership of Professor Paul Mapfumo, the Vice-Chancellor, the university has successfully pivoted toward commercializing academic research, particularly in the fields of food value chains and space science.
