National Biosafety Management Agency (NBMA)
NBMA provides a regulatory framework to adequately safeguard human health and the environment from potential adverse effects of modern biotechnology and its products such as genetically modified organisms, while harnessing the potentials of modern biotechnology and its derivatives, for the benefit of Nigerians.
The mandate of the NBMA is to coordinate and execute priority regulatory oversight and safety assessments to promote the safe application of modern biotechnology towards the accelerated realisation of a food-secure and technologically advanced Nigeria while simultaneously strengthening the capacity of national laboratories and biosafety officers, advancing knowledge-based advisory support to ensure biosecurity against harmful biological agents, and serving as the country’s technical interface with the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety and other international regulatory partners.
